D&D Roguelike
A simplified variation of 5e created to help "chat play d&d" live on stream.
Character Creation
Building a Character
Some key differences between normal DND and "DNDRL."
- The look of your character such as ancestory (Race/Species) gives no attribute bonuses, passives or features.
- Each class has three (3) arsenal "loadouts" to choose from; you can find them on each class page.
- Four (4) skill proficiencies are predetermined for each class, such as Stealth and Insight. This provides +2 to relative rolls.
- To speed up gameplay, characters have;
- +3 modifiers to their attack rolls and weapon damage rolls. Not all spells gain a damage bonus. This does buff half-casters like Paladin and Ranger.
- DC 14 Saving Throws to any feature or spell.
- Starting hit points and every level up gain their maximum hit dice. (ie 1d8 = 8 hit points.) Constitution does not apply. This hit dice is found on each class page represented as 💖 6, 8, 10 or 12.
- Armor class is based on class, loadout and subclass.
Spells
Spells in the D&D Roguelike have unique rules. Instead of giving each magic user "spell slots" the spells they learn may each be cast once per combat. The exception being cantrips, which have unlimited uses.
Combats are intended to be quicker than those you'd encounter in D&D5e, allowing spellcasters to be highly influential on each battlefield, though perhaps not as flexible.
Out of combat, players are permitted to use any spell or feature in their arsenal to roleplay.
Items, Scrolls and Relics
During a playthrough, the party will find numerous items. Each event will provide a reward such as: gold, resources, potions, magic scrolls or even treasured relics.
At the end of a journey, whether defeating the final boss or a untimely TPK... all collected items and resources are reset.
